Risk Adjustment Coding Instructor

Risk Adjustment Coding Instructor: Meet Danielle LaGravenese

Danielle LaGravenese, CPC, CRC, AAPC Approved Instructor

Founder & Lead Instructor, Risk Adjustment Coding Academy

Danielle LaGravenese brings nearly two decades of hands-on experience in medical coding and billing, including 10 years specialized in risk adjustment coding, healthcare compliance, and value-based care. As an HCC/VBC Compliance Supervisor at Summit Health, she leads a team of more than 25 coders and auditors with a strong focus on coding accuracy, provider education, and regulatory compliance.

She entered the field in 2010 after becoming a new mother, seeking a practical and stable career path. After completing an instructor-led medical billing program, she earned her CPC in 2012 and began as a Billing Specialist at a large infectious disease practice. There she gained deep experience in charge entry, denials, appeals, and provider education, while learning from mentors who shaped the professional standard she still follows today.

In 2017 she joined Summit Health on the HCC/risk adjustment team. She grew from coder to Supervisor, expanding her expertise in compliance, quality of care, provider education, and RADV audits. Along the way she earned her CRC credential and became an AAPC Approved Instructor.

In June 2026, Danielle founded the Risk Adjustment Coding Academy, where she develops practical, real-world training designed to help coders move from textbook knowledge to confident, audit-ready practice. As an AAPC Approved Instructor, she is authorized to teach AAPC curriculum and is pursuing AAPC CEU approval for her courses.

Her teaching style is clear, direct, and grounded in the everyday realities of the work. She believes effective instruction should deliver immediate value the moment students leave the classroom, and that the best teachers never forget what it feels like to be a learner.

Medical coding gave her more than a career. As a single mother, it allowed her to build a stable life for her son and create a path she is proud to share with others. When she’s not focused on coding and compliance, Danielle is a dedicated mom to a teenage son. In her downtime, you might find her playing kickball or planning a warm ocean getaway.

Danielle looks forward to supporting you on your coding journey.
